Web
standards are defined as a formal set of standards and technical specifications
used to define aspects of the World Wide Web. These are the standards of best
practices that organizations use to build websites and web applications. They
are the technologies that used to build websites. While using the standards it
will increase the sites search engine ranking. The types of web standards are
Hyper Text Markup Language {HTML}, Extensible Markup Language {XML}, Cascading
Style Sheet {CSS}, Document Object Model {DOM}, Emerging Standard.
History of Web Standards
In 1989, Tim Berners Lee, a researcher at
the CERN Institute for Particle Physics, invented a tool called Enquire. Years
later, this has become the World Wide Web. After creating the HTTP and HTML specifications,
he founded the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C for short) in 1994.
· W3C
Standards
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is a
worldwide enterprise consortium aimed at "getting the maximum out of the
Web." It led with the aid of using Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the
W3C. Founded in 1994, the W3C has greater than 330 members, which includes
Microsoft, America Online (the figure enterprise of Netscape Communications),
Apple Computer, Adobe, Macromedia, Sun Microsystems, and different hardware and
software program makers, content material providers, and academics.
Types of W3C Standards
1. HTML {Hyper Text Markup Language}
HTML is widely used on the Web to add
different types of structures to text documents. The browser describes these
documents and presents the structure to the user in a simple way. The different
types of HTML are:
Ø HTML 2.0
It is made to work between different browsers and
platforms.
Ø HTML 3.0
It is the richer version of HTML, but never reached
consensus.
Ø HTML 3.2
It is similar to HTML 3.0, but it had the capability
to gain the consensus that HTML 3.0 did not reach.
Ø HTML 4
It is an extended version of HTML style sheet,
scripting, frames, tables, etc.
Ø HTML 5
It is the current version and allows the building more
powerful websites and apps.
2. XML { Extensible Markup Language}
Extensible Markup Language is a markup
language similar to HTML, but instead of having a single, defined set of
elements, it allows you to develop your own or use one developed by the others.
Using XML namespaces, it is even possible to use numerous sets within a single
document.W3C Recommendations have previously been published for some XML applications,
including such XHTML and MathML.
3. CSS {Cascading Style Sheets}
A cascading style sheet (CSS) is a
mechanism that changes the appearance of an HTML or XML element by assigning
styles to element types, self-defined classes of elements, or individual
instances. Style sheets can be used to uniformly define the look and feel
of your entire website.
4. DOM { Document Object Model}
5. Emerging Standards
ECMA Standards
The European Computer Manufacturers
Association is an organization officially founded in 1961 to meet the
needs of standardization of computer operating formats such as programming
languages and input / output codes.
Advantages of Web Standards
Ø Very lower bandwidth cost.
Ø It has friendly search engine.
Ø Less cost for maintenance.
Ø Less time for updating.
Ø It has feature of faster downloading.
Ø It is accessible to a wider range of users as
well as including people with disabilities.
Disadvantages of Web Standards
Ø Need good skill in codding.
Characteristics of Web Standards
Ø Mobile compatibility
Now a day’s more people are using their mobile devices
to access the internet, creating a mobile optimized website has become a
necessity.
Ø Easily accessible to all users
A user friendly website should be accessible to
everyone including blind and people with disabilities, these peoples can easily
access the internet by using screen readers such as Alexa, Google Assistant,
and Siri.
Ø Fast load times
It is an important factor in web standards, website
should loads within 4 to 6 seconds is very important for good usability. This
will also help to increase the ranking of search engine.
Ø Good error handling
Correct handling of errors at a code level keeps the
website good and free from bugs.
Ø Privacy and security
It is another important factor in web standards,
privacy means allowing people to access the website and not spying on them for
collecting more data, Security refers to build the website secure way, so the
malicious users cannot steal information from website or from users.
Web standards are the foundation and
future of the Internet; they introduce and drive the current trend in browser
evolution, and all businesses will eventually adopt them. The impact of Web
standards on a firm can vary depending on how well-prepared it is, its
technical flexibility, the number of sites it has, as well as the quality and
amount of existing material and software applications; this process must be
analyzed and modified to each occasion. Because it is not critical for most
businesses to use Web standards, it is up to each business to examine the
possibility of doing so whenever it re-vamps its website. This can be a good,
steady technique to overcome the learning curve while getting the most out of
these new ways — by lowering the risk of and properly handling errors, as well
as overcoming natural change resistance, with a solid understanding of the
benefits that can be derived from webpages.

DIJO JOHNSON
I felt like web standards were a work of art after reading this blog. It's remarkable that web standards have improved so much in over 30 years. It's also incredible that it uses very little bandwidth, has a user-friendly search engine, is less expensive to maintain, takes less time to update, allows for faster downloads, and is accessible to a broader range of users, including the disabled. However, some aspects of web standards, which are so beneficial, are lacking and do not provide benefits. I enjoy your blog in general, but I expect it to be mentioned in the missing web standards section. As a result, we as readers will be able to discuss it more thoroughly on this blog.
